Become an SJPLA Partner

Being an SJPLA Partner means belonging to a community of Angelenos who support each other in creating a more just and loving Los Angeles.

Collectively, we can do so much. Join SJPLA as a Partner to grow meaningful connections and find your place and people in the work toward liberation.

As a Partner, you commit to:

Show up curious and learn from the wisdom of those most impacted by systemic injustice.

Build relationships across our SJPLA community to expand and support this network of justice-minded Angelenos.

Make a personally significant financial contribution meant to create meaningful impact.

Not ready to join us as a Partner yet?

  • At SJPLA, we value relationships as the key to creating change. Throughout the year, we convene for learning events, program workshops, and gatherings where Partners can be in community with other justice-minded Angelenos.

Get to know our community at learning events, Partner meetings, and coaching opportunities. SJPLA is a space where we actively create a sense of belonging for every individual to create a community that cares deeply about each other.

  • SJPLA Partners commit to learning from each other’s lived experiences of the systems we seek to change. We value learning as essential to the work of dismantling racist and unjust systems.

Partners are invited to embody ways of being and thinking that push back against the norm. We build a personal understanding of oppressive systems while learning practical practices to address injustice from the individual through the systemic level.

  • Our Partners contribute their talents, resources, and relationships to actively nurture and grow our community. We each possess unique gifts and power. Therefore, we invite our Partners to share their time, skills, and networks in ways that align with the needs of both our program partners and SJPLA's work broadly.

Partners also commit funds to redistribute wealth and power to align with our values. We see the impact of Partner contributions that moves funds to our Accelerator initiatives and other systems change work that dismantles oppressive systems.

We ask that Partners contribute a personally significant amount to power our work on a monthly or annual basis. Partners feel the impact of a personally significant contribution in their lives and wallets, reflecting the impact they want to create in the community.

Opportunities for SJPLA Partners

  • Community Grantmaking

Join various grantmaking committees redistributing resources in Los Angeles. We run multiple grant selection processes annually - selecting our Systems Change Accelerator Cohort, REI Fellows, and grantees for the LA2050 Challenge. Collectively, we’re facilitating the redistribution of nearly $5M each year to nonprofits and leaders working to challenge the status quo.

  • Fast Pitch Coaching

With a focus on strengths-based storytelling, SJPLA’s ten-week Fast Pitch training prepares leaders to craft and deliver a powerful three-minute pitch to inspire community members to invest and get involved in their work. Over the course of the training, SJP Partners work in pairs to support a nonprofit leader in honing a pitch that is showcased at our annual Fast Pitch event.

  • Community Learning & Wellbeing

We believe that tending to our inner wellbeing and growth is an essential part of sustaining our commitment to this work. We offer an Anti-Racism for White People community course to explore mindsets, behaviors and commitments that enable you to take action for racial justice at a discount for Partners. Or drop into any of our Monthly Wellbeing Series talks exploring a variety of healing modalities to promote personal rest, renewal, and connection.

  • Connection to external learning opportunities

Complimentary membership to Southern California Grantmakers, giving you access to the region’s philanthropic community, and a robust calendar of events & programs, knowledge sharing and peer groups throughout the year.

  • Partner Committees

Partners also support SJPLA’s organizational health and functioning. Opportunities arise throughout the year to participate on committees focussed on areas related to organizational governance and advising, such as our Board Nominations Committee, Bylaws Committee, and other ad hoc committees.

  • Community Events

Learn from each other, our team, and our program cohorts at various events including Partner Meetings, Fast Pitch, learning events, and other gatherings.
