for emerging initiatives tackling the root cause of pressing social problems in L.A.

program overview

The SVPLA Systems Change Accelerator is a nine-month program accelerating the growth and impact of a cohort of systems change initiatives in Los Angeles County. The Accelerator blends workshops, coaching, peer learning, and 1:1 mentoring to support nonprofit leaders in honing their systems change strategy, clarifying and amplifying their message, and growing their network of relationships and resources while grounding their work in the values of equity and justice. We’ve found that supporting these foundational elements uniquely accelerate an organization’s ability to create systemic community impact.

We see an opportunity to create exponential positive change in Los Angeles through this focus on root causes, by channeling the unique skills, networks, and expertise of the cohort and our SVP Partners in support of these endeavors.

The program runs from October 2019 to June 2020, and will include participation in SVP’s signature Fast Pitch Program. Participating organizations receive an unrestricted seed grant of $20,000 and will be eligible for additional cash prizes through the Fast Pitch portion of the program. See the 2018-2019 Accelerator Cohort.

2019 has been a year of significant growth in SVPLA's capacity to support early-stage systems change initiatives. After reimagining the Accelerator application process, this year we've doubled our cohort size to 10. Read SVPLA Executive Director Christine Margiotta’s piece about why we eliminated a long, written application form and transitioned to in-person workshops to identify our incoming Accelerator cohort.

Further, thanks to the generous contribution of an SVPLA Partner, we’ve thrilled to share that we’ve doubled the size of the grants, with each participating organization now receiving an unrestricted grant of $20,000.
